Pre-Meeting Prep

The Last Angry DJ is a high-end video produced YouTube show that live streams every Sunday at 2pm PST/5pm EST. With all of our guests, we aim to make you look and sound your best. Here are some guidelines we would like you to consider.

  • The first thing to do is to install the Zoom Workplace app on your desktop/laptop computer.
  • If you don’t have a Zoom account, you will need one to login to the meeting
  • Arrive minimum 30 minutes before show start for tech check ✅
  • We prefer a hard wired Ethernet connection for stability
  • Make sure WiFi is turned OFF

Why Put Effort Into This?

As the world grows ever more remote, putting some level of effort into how you look and sound will make a great difference in how you are perceived. Being well lit, framed, and sounding good will increase your authority in a conversation over time. You would not show up to meet with a client in a t-shirt and shorts, would you? How you look in a Zoom meeting today is analogous to wearing a nice suit.

Lighting & Video

For a reasonably priced key/fill lighting setup, we recommend the 18″ Neewer brand of LED video light panels. You can get a pair with stands for around $200.

Either the webcam built in on any MacBook that’s made from 2022 or later, or an external camera. Some budget friendly suggestions:

Framing

As you can see in this meeting screenshot, we often have picture-in-picture layouts where we put you into narrow boxes. It’s imperative that we get your framing right so that you fit within these, so we try to avoid things like up angles and leaving too much headroom. Here is a screenshot showing how vastly different people can look when things are not adjusted optimally.

Audio

For audio, an external microphone with headphones (no open speakers). If you have something higher end, that’s fine with us too.

Here are some budget friendly suggestions:

  • Microphone: Shure MV6
  • Headphones and In-Ear Monitors: Shure SE215-CL (any headphones are better than NO headphones

Should you have any questions, please email our producer, Alexander Knight ahead of the show so we can work on things.
